In which I accidentally try 5 glosses and reject the format out of hand
Hello!
You may recall my pencil case of lip product shame…
I say: it is time to dive back in! This time, originally as a coincidence and then to round it out, I have sampled five glosses contained therein. Read on to learn my verdict not just on these glosses but on glosses in general:
I HATED this. It’s meant to make your lips plumper with [science]1 but it felt like an allergic reaction in the worst possible way. It did make my lips very pink, very glossy and maybe plumper but I think that was by creating kind of an allergic-y ring around my mouth. WHY??
Verdict: Straight in the bin
MAC Tinted Lipglass in Dreamy
A nice nude-y tint and super glittery, too glittery for me, personally. But maybe that’s your jam! Just watch out because it’s SO sticky.
Verdict: A no from me
Lancôme Juicy Tubes in Framboise
Well this was a blast from the past. It was incredibly glossy but also so STICKY. Like next level sticky, even more than I would expect from a gloss. It was fun for nostalgia value but I won’t be using it again in a hurry (although I will say my lips felt soft that night).
Verdict: appreciate the 2000s vibes, thank it for its service and toss
Chantecaille Brilliant Gloss in Glee
This has a gentle pink wash and a more pleasing sensation than the other glosses – more of an oil feel than pure glue. But the shine payoff is lower, too. Ultimately, this suits me and my growing suspicion that I don’t like lip glosses but then… why would I buy it? (Especially at the $70 price point.)
Verdict: use my sample but don’t repurchase
This has a really pretty pinky-nude colour with more pigmentation than the others. And glitter, but not too much. It is also less sticky and more slippy but at this point I think some stickiness is inevitable.
Verdict: this is the only gloss I will/do use but only the on the occasions I want to feel like Rihanna (sexy, glossy, sparkly)
In conclusion, maybe I hate lip gloss? I don’t love the look nearly enough to make up for the unpleasant sensation that seems inherent to the product. Unfortunately I still have more to go…
Thank you for reading along, I really, really appreciate it. I’ll try some more lip things soon, probably not gloss!
Love,
Fay
On further research this does, in fact, work by causing an allergic reaction and is not recommended for people with sensitive skin, ie: me. But seriously why would you do that? And, on doing that, why would you not make that clear on the packaging??
I very much enjoyed this. I’m also pro balm and anti gloss—Melbourne is too windy for gloss! I’m putting in a request for future takes on lip oils, please. I’m considering the MERIT oil.
What a coincidence! I was gifted the plumping gloss and I couldn’t wait to wipe it off and throw it in the bin! Why would you do that to yourself?
